Working closely with architects and consultants we had the privilege of taking on a heritage project to refurbish the Grade II Caledonian Park Clock Tower.

Background:

Located in Islington North London, the Clock Tower in Caledonian Park was built in 1855 as the centrepiece of the Metropolitan Cattle Market which replaced Smithfield as the capital’s primary livestock market. With the dissolution of the market in the 60’s the beautiful Clock Tower had over the decades, fallen into disrepair.

Salvation came in 2019 when the London Borough of Islington worked with the Heritage Lottery Fund to repair and conserve the historic building and improve access to the building as a centre point of community activities.

The Project:

The architects and consultants on this project required an LPS 1175 SR4 rated doorset for the main access point to the clocktower as well as other entry points. Our team selected Wilton heritage doors from Stafford Bridge. Paired with a Surelock Slimline, the solution offered the required security measures without compromising the aesthetics of this historic building.

Fully certified to LPS 1175 SR4 for single or double-leaf doorsets, the Wilton has been developed to resist experienced forced entry attempts when there is no regard to noise production, making it an ideal solution for the Clock Tower where access can always be obtained.

The Wilton was easily configured to replicate the original doorsets used on this striking heritage site. Completed with bespoke panelling and paint finish on the door leaves as well as the ironmongery, it effortlessly matches the original doorsets from the Clock Tower. The new Wilton allowed our client to retain the beauty of the Caledonian Park Clock Tower without compromising the strength of the doorset.

At the end of this project, our clients were delighted with the outcome of their refurbishment and our team were grateful to help secure a unique building with such a rich history.
