Blast Resistant Solutions: Assessed, Approved, Assured

Blast protection is rarely a ‘one size fits all’ solution.

Physical protection of infrastructure against blast threats is integral to the safety of personnel and assets, and is rarely a ‘one size fits all’ solution. With peak incident pressure, charge weight and distance to consider, Stafford Bridge design and manufacture blast resistant doorsets and windows with each unique project at front of mind. With end-to-end support of the design specification, installation, fitting and on-going maintenance, Stafford Bridge blast resistant solutions are assessed, approved and assured. 

What type of blast pressure is your building exposed to?

Whether a blast has come from a targeted explosion or an accidental petrochemical incident, the initial force and consequent shock waves must be considered. Explosive materials release a large amount of energy in a short space of time, placing huge pressure on building infrastructure such as doors, windows and locks. 

Typically, a petrochemical blast produces low pressure over a longer period of time, whilst a bomb blast produces a much higher pressure lasting for a shorter period of a time, as shown in the graph below.

For example, a typical bomb blast can reach a peak pressure of 800Kpa with a positive impulse duration of 4ms, whilst a typical petrochemical blast reaches a lower 133Kpa but endures for 200ms. This makes the requirements for blast resistant doors, windows and locks different depending on what your building is exposed to.
